Culture Matters.  Diversity should make delivery and service implementation different.  This does not mean that the theory of Applied Behavior Analysis and the delivery of parent training supports is based in less science and theory.  The difference that culture, race, and diversity makes should enhance and challenge how we work and make our parent supports impactful and relational.

Delivering a systematic methodology to parent training is an idea and concept that eludes many behavior analysts and professionals in practice.  Adding to the complexity of parent training is the effort and direction of how to incorporate culturally sensitive parent training tools. Principles of Behavior Analysis task the professional to provide treatment that has generality, is socially significant, and effective.  

This webinar will provide the tools of parent support focused on incorporating cultural sensitivity to diverse populations.   Additionally, this webinar will lead attendees to consider a three-tier model of Education, Training, and Coaching based in Relational Frame Theory and Communication Strategies for the Adult Learner as foundational to effective parent support solutions.  

Learning Objectives:

  •  Learners will be able to differentiate between parent training, parent education, and parent coaching.
  •  Learners will be able to develop a culturally sensitive three tier model of parent support
  •  Learners will understand how to identify and refrain from the micro or macroaggressions as well as implicit bias in communication and interactions with families of diverse populations.
  •  Learners will be able to utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Reflective Communication Strategies to support relationship building, trust, and being a value add to families of diverse population.

Landria Seals Green, MA, CCC-SLP, BCBA, is a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst with over 15 years of experience providing clinical assessments, evaluations and treatment for learners with autism in home, school and community-based settings. Landria specializes in autism, social communication and organization behavior management. She trains professionals in speech pathology, applied behavior analysis, special education and occupational therapy in program implementation for learners with autism and created training curricula and manuals for professionals. Providing consultation and training in Intensive Behavior Intervention (IBI) programs to public, private and charter schools, Landria is a sought-after expert in the field for clinical consultation and in the area of therapy business management. She is an Autism Thought Leader and consultant providing professional development to professionals, parent trainings, as well as program development and supervision to clinicians and autism focused therapy centers throughout the world.  Additionally, she provides coaching to clinic owners and leadership in the area of therapy business management.
Landria is the developer of the SOAR Autism Curriculum and SOAR Solutions for Autism, ABA, and special education, which provides web-based tools and training in ABA for parents and professionals. She is the founder and chief clinical officer of Momentum Autism Therapy Services and the Momentum Therapy Provider Network. Her blog has been featured in The Mighty, National Autism Association, and many other media outlets.  
Landria is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (B.S. Speech and Hearing Science) and Northwestern University (M.A. Speech Language Pathology). She received her training in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas. She is trained in the ADOS (University of Michigan-Ann Arbor), PROMPT, and DIR-Floortime®.
